CAUSES

Water absorption (in wood or fiber-reinforced shake)
In MiraVista shakes, can be the natural release of stress built up in manufacturing and does not effect longevity

RECOMMENDATIONS

Replace shake, be sure to check exposed interlayment for damage before replacing the shake
Adding proper roof ventilation at time of installation, to prevent curling
